Estimates and quantity/coverage guides, not guarantees

Results are deterministic estimates from your inputs, your prices and standard reference conventions (wall area = perimeter × height; net area = gross − openings; ceiling = L × W; gallons = ceil(area × coats ÷ coverage); primer = ceil(area ÷ primer coverage); cost = area × your $/sq ft + labor + add-ons, ×(1 + contingency)). Real projects vary — verify measurements and figures before relying on them.

Not a bid, not a price index

Cost tools give planning estimates from your own prices, not bids or contracts, and we store no live material or labor price list, no regional cost index, no product catalog and no contractor directory. Cost bands are a labeled sanity guide only. Get itemized written quotes from licensed, insured painters.

Measure & confirm; buy extra

Quantity tools give planning guides. Measure your actual surfaces and confirm coverage against the paint you buy, and buy a little extra for texture, porosity, color change and waste — coverage varies by product and surface, and you should round up to whole gallons/quarts.

Labeled typicals, not a certified spec

The coverage per gallon, primer coverage, number of coats, door/window deductions and cost bands are labeled published snapshots / planning typicals — confirm against the paint can’s stated spread rate, the manufacturer’s data and a licensed, insured painter. Surface prep, moisture/adhesion and pre-1978 lead paint are a pro’s call: follow the EPA RRP rule and hire a certified firm. Lead-paint abatement, structural repairs and code certification are not engineered here.

Anti-overlap: residential painting quantity, coverage & cost only

This site covers residential painting quantity, coverage & cost math only — the paint job. It is not a roofing / siding replacement / gutter / exterior-cladding resource (exteriorcalcs & guttercalcs — here only painting the existing surface, never replacing it); not a whole-home remodel / kitchen-bath renovation estimator (renovationcalcs — paint & cabinet refinishing as a line item only); not an interior flooring / drywall / window / door replacement resource (floorscalcs & windowcalcs — here only painting trim, doors and walls); not an attic / wall thermal insulation resource (insulationcalcs); and not a professional lead-paint abatement, structural-repair or code-certification tool.

Not an application or safety guide

Nothing here is an application procedure, a surface-prep verdict, a structural or engineering determination, or safety advice — working at height on ladders is a fall risk, and pre-1978 homes fall under the EPA RRP lead-safe rule. Defer the professional job to a licensed, insured painter (RRP-certified for pre-1978 homes) and confirm code with your local building department.
